Chair

The Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate Professor level.

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair in the Department of Psychology. The appointment as Chair will be for five years, effective July 1, 2019, with the possibility of being renewed for a second term of up to five years.

Candidates must be tenured faculty members at the University of Guelph* and should have a substantial understanding of the Psychology department and the disciplinary sub-fields that comprise the teaching and research programs. The successful candidate will possess leadership and management capabilities that serve the needs of the department, college and university, as well as the ability to appreciate and provide balanced leadership across scholarly areas. A strong record of teaching, scholarship and service is also required. A record of successful service at college and university levels would be an asset.

In collaboration with departmental colleagues, the Chair will be expected to guide the future direction and positioning of the department. The Chair will also be expected to support individual members of the department through mentoring and facilitation; encourage collegiality, inclusive governance and a respectful work environment; foster values of fairness, and excellence; and maintain a sense of pride and community among all members (students, staff and faculty) of the department. The Chair will be expected to act as an advocate for the department, and facilitate and maintain relationships with other members of the University of Guelph and broader scholarly community. The Chair has overall responsibility that department practices and processes are formulated, promulgated and followed, that resources are properly allocated, and that college and university policies and procedures are followed.

*Note that appointment of an applicant from a department other than Psychology would be subject to provisions in Article 24.1 of the collective agreement, consideration of operational and budgetary considerations, and consent by the respective Dean(s) and Provost.

Director (Internal)

Applicants are sought for the position of Director, School of Fine Art and Music (SoFaM), in the College of Arts at the University of Guelph.

Applicants will be at Associate or Full Professor rank and hold a PhD or terminal degree in a discipline relevant to the School. Candidates will have strong academic qualifications in teaching and scholarship, relevant experience in university administration, the ability to work well in a collegial and consultative atmosphere, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

The Director will work closely with the College Dean and other Chairs/Directors for the benefit of the School and of the College. The Director will maintain effective communication between the School and the College, and between him/herself and the members of the School. The Director will also provide the high level of leadership and energy necessary to realize the goals of the School.

The Director will be responsible for guiding the School’s growth, managing its affairs in accordance with the strategic plans of the College and the University, and articulating the School’s academic vision particularly in relation to the University’s commitment to internationalism. The mandate is for a five-year period starting July 1, 2019. Responsibilities and conditions around the position of Director are outlined in Article 20 of the Collective Agreement.

Assistant Librarian

As a part of the L&CS team, and reporting to the Manager, Information Literacy, the L&CS Librarian supports information literacy programs and services. Working in a collaborative, team-based environment, and in keeping with the commitment of the Information Literacy team to providing a range of curriculum-integrated, blended, and critical approaches to information literacy, the Librarian designs, teaches, and assesses information literacy programs and services, provides research help and consultations, and conducts outreach face-to-face and online. The Librarian maintains a current awareness of developments in information literacy, scholarly communication, digital media literacies, digital scholarship and pedagogy, academic libraries and higher education, and applies this in a critical fashion in practice. Responsibility for other projects or initiatives may also be assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

 

  • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent
  • Recent experience providing information literacy instruction in a college or university setting and/or experience teaching at the high school, college, or university level
  • Understanding of and ability to apply the ACRL Information Literacy Framework for Higher Education
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher
  • Knowledge of best practices and current trends in information literacy in higher education
  • Broad knowledge of information sources and tools in academic libraries
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and collegial team-based organization
  • Self-directed and well organized with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines

 

Preferred

 

  • Education or training in pedagogy, instructional design, and/or assessment
  • Post-secondary degree in the arts/humanities and/or experience providing liaison support in these areas
  • Demonstrated facility in the use of educational technologies and digital media tools, such as learning management systems and video editing software
  • Experience providing reference service
  • Knowledge of best practices and current trends in academic libraries
