Patient Service Aide

As a member of a patient care team, you will provide support services for the patient, family and other members of the patient care team.  Using your strong communication skills, you will address patient and family concerns and requests.  Your problem solving-skills will enable you to adjust service and work priorities. You will promote and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and customer service.

Shift: Saturday, Sunday & Stat Holidays 11:30pm-7:30am.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

  • Ensures a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and families by maintaining the patient rooms/treatment areas according to environmental specifications of service, as follows:
  • Cleaning and setting up patient rooms, treatment areas, making beds and supplying linens.
  • Identifying patient/family priorities and concerns, adjust service provisions accordingly.
  • Cleaning non patient care areas.
  • Ensure that unit based clinical equipment used for patient care is cleaned, functioning and available for use. Report any concerns with equipment or that require repair to the Supervisor.
  • Checking and restocking patient care supplies and identifying requirements for supplies that need to be re-ordered.
  • Ensuring an appropriate level of supplies in patient care areas is available and verify any required orders that may be needed for patient care.
  • Assist with meeting patient nourishment needs, including distributing and collection patient meal trays
  • Communicate changing work priorities with co-workers to ensure the efficient operations and service needs.
  • Assist with transportation duties as required, when transport services is not available, including patients and other patient care needs such as specimen deliveries to the lab.
  • The PSA is accountable to ensure Infection Prevention & Controls standards (PIDAC), department/hospital policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Involved in quality assurance program and inspections by Supervisors and Clinical staff.
  • Discretion applied to prioritize clinical needs/requests due to patient/unit/clinic activity.

Housekeeping Aide

As a Housekeeping Aide, you will maintain an environment that is clean, safe and comfortable. You will promote a high standard of customer service.  You will also perform environmental services duties by following procedures and work assignments.

Here’s What You’ll Need To Do

  • Responsible for the overall environmental services duties of the hospital by ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is maintained as follows:
  • Sweeps, dust mops, damp mops, wet mops, high dusts and vacuums floors, stairwells and corridors.
  • Maintains floors with the use of floor polishers, scrubs and when required resurfacing floors.
  • Washes walls, vents, windows, ceiling and light fixtures using cleaning solutions and equipment.
  • Cleans and replenishes supplies in washrooms on a daily basis.
  • Moves furniture as required in order to maintain proper cleaning of area.
  • Change privacy and window drapery.
  • Shampoos and extracts carpets and upholstery.

Clinical Fellow

We are seeking a part-time Psychology Clinical Fellow to join the Department of Psychology and the Eating Disorders Program at the Hospital for Sick Children as part of our Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology.  This position is 2 days per week (0.4FTE) and will involve a combination of direct clinical service and clinical research.  This is a one-year training position beginning in September 2019, with the possibility of renewal for the second year conditional on successful completion of the first year requirements.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

Training Setting: The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), affiliated with the University of Toronto, is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children’s health in the country.  The Department of Psychology at SickKids includes approximately 30 psychologists and 10 psychometrists, along with numerous clinical and research staff and trainees providing services and conducting clinical research within the hospital.

Clinical Training: The fellowship offers clinical training within the Eating Disorder Program including:  in psychodiagnostic and psychometric assessment; family, group and individual therapies;  inpatient, day program, and outpatient services; and opportunities for consultation/liaison services for a wide range of psychiatric, motivational and medical conditions.

Clinical Research: The fellowship also requires the coordination and delivery of one or more clinical research projects, which could either be; (a) retrospective and descriptive – based either on a large existing clinical database, or (b) prospective and longitudinal – but a smaller scale design.  The fellow will work as part of a specific team of clinical researchers and be involved in all aspects of the research process, from data analysis to manuscript writing.

Supervision is provided by senior staff in the Department of Psychology and involves observation, report review, and one-on-one meetings to discuss cases.

Didactics:  A wide range of didactic opportunities are available, including Psychology Clinical Rounds, Professional Issues Seminars for Psychology Clinical Fellows, EDP Clinical Psychology Seminars, Brain & Mental Health Rounds, and numerous clinical rounds in Adolescent Medicine, Psychiatry, and Paediatrics.

Eligibility

Applicants should be graduates of a CPA/APA accredited graduate program in clinical psychology and have completed a CPA/APA accredited pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology.  It is expected that applicants will have internship level training in pediatric clinical psychology and/or health psychology.  All degree requirements must be completed before the fellowship start date.  It is also expected that the applicant will meet the requirements for issuance of a Certificate for Supervised Practice and pursue registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario during the first year of the fellowship.

Clin. Res. Project Asst.-RI

The Clinical Research Project Assistant will work closely with the Clinical Research Coordinator, Manager and/or Principal Investigator to assist in the operations of clinical research studies involving children undergoing intensive chemotherapy. This includes the development of clinical practice guidelines, the development and validation of patient-reported outcome instruments, and the implementation of interventions (including yoga) to reduce treatment-related symptoms. This position includes working weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and being available for statutory holidays.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

Project Related in Hospital (20% of role):

  • Assist with the conduct of a variety of studies focused on supportive care in children undergoing intensive chemotherapy, including a study involving yoga
  • Obtain informed consent and conduct participant screening, recruit and enroll subjects
  • Administer study questionnaires and conduct interviews with children with cancer, their parents, and health care professionals.

Project Related Administrative (20% of role)

  • Maintain study logs and databases.
  • Prepare submissions to the Research Ethics Board
  • Perform data management including checking data for accuracy and completeness, entering data into study databases, and data cleaning.
  • Prepare study case report forms and assemble packages of questionnaires
  • Conduct health chart reviews.

General Administrative (60% of role):

  • Perform general office duties including photocopying, faxing, typing, mail sorting, filing, obtaining signatures, etc.
  • Assist with tasks related to grant and/or manuscript preparation
  • Organize a variety of meetings/conferences/events and make arrangements including meeting rooms, meals, and audiovisual equipment services.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Minimum 200 hour Yoga Teaching Certification REQUIRED plus 1-2 years teaching experience preferred
  • Post-secondary degree in sciences, social sciences, or a health-related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and/or youth
  • Working weekends and being available for statutory holidays is REQUIRED
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a clinical research setting is preferred
  • An interest in patient-oriented e-Health applications is considered an asset
  • Knowledge in pediatric oncology is considered an asset
  • Experience with EndNote, PubMed and Medline searches is an asset
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Creative, flexible, self-directed, innovative, results- and detail-oriented
